Suicides

Deaths in a year whose recorded cause is intentional self-harm under the ICD-10 classification (X60–X84), per 100,000 residents. The rate leads rather than the count: the population fell considerably over this span, so a falling count on its own does not say whether the risk fell. The counts themselves are in the second table.

Method and caveats

Statistics Lithuania’s indicator database: the death rate per 100,000 residents (table S3R708) and the number of deaths (table S3R838), both for the cause “intentional self-harm” (ICD-10 X60–X84), whole country, both sexes together. Annual and gap-free from 2000 to 2025. The rate is crude rather than age-standardised: a year’s deaths divided by that year’s average population, with no allowance for changes in the age structure. The source serves the rate with many decimal places; here it is rounded to one, and stored and shown at that precision. Eurostat publishes the same data, but in two tables with a methodology change between them (hlth_cd_anr to 2010, hlth_cd_aro from 2011), so no single continuous series is drawn from them; in 2000, 2010 and 2023 the two bodies’ counts agree to the unit.
