Method and caveats

The index is Statistics Lithuania’s own chained consumer price index and begins in December 1990. A price index measures purchasing power and is therefore blind to redenomination: the litas replacing 100 talonas changed no prices, so the index runs straight through 1993 while the amounts people held did not. The annual rate is the office’s own twelve-month average read at December, not our arithmetic.
